You know how they say that today is the first day of the rest of your life...well, I guess I woke up a month ago are realized that "they" are right. For a number of years now, my goal has been to help Impact Church start a clinic close to downtown Houston. To do this I've gotten a nursing degree, worked in the ER, and started on a masters program to get the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification. Along the way, my body decided to give out. I developed severe arthitis in my hip, and had gotten to the point where I couldn't work in the ED anymore, could barely walk down the hall at TWU. I had given up on travel (which I love) and ever being able to more than just barely get around.
5 months ago I got a new right hip. The difference is amazing!! I can walk, bend, move, and even travel like I haven't been able to in years. I also realized that the only responsibility I had in this life was for myself and my behavior. I am responsible for no one else! I initially considered a part time FNP program in Nashville. I applied, quit my job, then realized that if I delayed entry a year into the full time program, I could have a year to do other things!!! Isn't that cool? Other things!!!
So here begins my big adventure. Today I registered at the Casa de Lenguas Spanish Language School in Antigua, Guatemala. I start classes there on September 10. Before that I have to pack, find places for everything, visit my daughter and son-in-law, figure out money, find a home for a 21 year old cat, and ..... and who knows what else. I bought a camera so I could put up pictures, and signed up for my first ever blog! As for what next??? I'll keep you posted...

Earline, I just returned from 3 weeks in Indonesia to find "no Earline"!
Seriously though, I'm really happy for you. You've been a joy to work with the last three years. Thanks for all you've done for us, and thanks for preparing your replacement. I wish you the best.
Earline,
Thank you for all you have done for us students. You are going to LOVE learning Spanish in a foreign country. It will be nerve racking the first week as you adjust. Take deep breaths and point a whole bunch the locals will get it. At least that's what I did when I studied in Oaxaca, Mexico for a summer. Good luck to you and thanks again.
